First Ever G League Referee Collective Bargaining Agreement Is Reached

This is the first year of the “G League” which was previously known as the “D-League”

October 18, 2017 — On behalf of the G League referees, the NBA has agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement with the National Basketball Referees Association (NBRA), which is the union representing the G League referees. It is the first of its kind. The G League was previously known as the D-League.

The contract length is for two years, and has been ratified by the G League referees.

“The ratification of the first ever G League referee collective bargaining agreement is a historic moment in professional basketball officiating,” said Lucas Middlebrook, partner at Seham, Seham, Meltz & Petersen, LLP and NBRA representative. “The NBRA was able to achieve historic gains for the G League referees in this initial contract through productive collective bargaining. The NBRA now has collective bargaining agreements that set forth the terms and conditions of NBA, WNBA and G League referees and through these agreements and solidarity amongst all groups, the entire profession has been advanced.”

The NBRA is glad to see the G League referees get the contract they deserve from the NBA, and will help secure their futures in the G League and beyond.

The NBRA represents a united front for all professional basketball referees — as the representative of the NBA referees, WNBA referees and G League referees, and continues to create a stronger and more stable profession for all.
